TRIP REPORTS

The Great Maine Expedition, Year Two

September 2007

LAST MINUTE OPENINGS ARE AVAILABLE!  Schedule conflicts have caused two vehicles to withdraw, so we are no longer 100% booked!

If you would like to attend, please post in the FORUM and we can forward all the information to you.

Once again, we're headed North!  Everyone had a great time last year, so this year we'll apply our lessons learned and make it even better.  The details are still being worked, but we plan to once again rent a cabin to base ourselves from although you can camp on site also, if you prefer.  Fly fishing, off-road driving, exploring, hiking, photo safari... Last year we even examined the crash site of a B-52.

The dates are set- we will converge on the cabin in groups (instead of all at once) September 1st and vacate the cabin the morning of the 8th. Arrival times are flexible as well as departure, but the fees are the same for all attendees.

Strictly limited to TEN vehicles, once you are accepted and confirmed you will be able to vote on the routes, locations, and side trips. If you would like to attend, you can email your request.  Your truck MUST pass a rigorous inspection or you may be denied. Deposits are NOT refundable for any reason.

NEW for this year- there will be prizes and freebies from sponsor companies who would like their products evaluated.  Stay tuned for more details-

Based out of a cabin/camp site for several days- kayaking, photo safari, fly fishing... or just relaxing.  It's all up to you.  We'll have small side-trips available to search out missing aircraft (a growing interest for some members), four wheeling and hiking.

The side trip to visit the crash site of a B-52 was popular last year. Will we go again?  It's up to a vote among the registered members.
Camping will be available if you aren't keen on sharing a cabin with the others, but the cabin will serve as our "base camp" for most of the week.

Community meals will be prepared and all Expedition business will be conducted from the cabin.

All four wheeling will be done in groups for safety.  There are no repair shops or hospitals around here.  Strict guidelines will be in place- not to limit fun, but to ensure everyone gets home.

"Expedition Style" off road driving is meant to preserve the vehicle, as it is your lifeline. If you're a mud bogger rock basher, you'll need to alter your style or reconsider this trip.

Strictly limited to TEN vehicles, we'll take a slightly larger group this year.  All side trips will be done with groups of at least two vehicles for safety.

It's a little cold to swim in September, unless you wear a fur coat.

Dogs will be accepted, however if they demonstrate any negative behavior or lack of control you will be required to keep them on a leash.

Photo Safari is probably the MOST fun part.  We scoured the logging roads and trails for moose... eventually running out of light when we found a family. After all that work, one lumbers by the camp site.

Mt. Washington was another side trip toward the end of last year's trip.  Will we do it again? We'll see when all the spots are filled and the votes are in.

On a rather macabre note, the B&B where we stayed on the way back last year had an "interesting" incident.  Our breakfast that morning (tasty as it was) was cooked by a man who had just hours earlier killed his landlord and later in the day killed two more people.  Small world...  Hey, it's an adventure!

Time is running out- if you are interested in our adventure, post in the forum or e-mail me.

More information will be posted as things progress... All the latest details will be posted in the FORUM

Prepare for the SURVIVAL CHALLENGE!  We'll test your survival knowledge and skills with great prizes!
